The End of an Era on The Continent
The final chapter for Geralt of Rivia is officially on the horizon. Netflix has confirmed that the sprawling fantasy epic, The Witcher, will end with its fifth season, bringing the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s beloved book series to a definitive close. The announcement came as production for Season 4, which introduces Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt, was already underway.
In an April 2024 post on the show’s official X account, the team revealed the plan to conclude the story. “It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production,” the post stated. “But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent.”

An Epic and Satisfying Conclusion
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich assured fans that the decision was made to honor the source material. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion,” she said in a statement. “It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
The final two seasons are set to adapt the last three books in the series: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Hissrich hinted that the characters are heading into dark territory, telling TIME, “Each of them is in their own traumatic place, and in some cases, darker than we’ve ever seen them before.”
What to Expect from The Final Season
Cast and Characters
Liam Hemsworth will complete his journey as Geralt, which begins in the upcoming fourth season. He will be joined by the returning main cast, including Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Joey Batey as the beloved bard, Jaskier. Additionally, Laurence Fishburne, who debuts as the mysterious vampire Regis in Season 4, is expected to play a significant role in the show’s endgame.
Production and Release Date
To ensure a seamless narrative flow, Netflix filmed Seasons 4 and 5 back-to-back. Hissrich confirmed to GamesRadar+ in October 2025 that production on the final season had already concluded. “The good news is I won’t say goodbye to it quite yet, because I’m in post[-production] for a very long time for season five,” she said. While an official release date has not been announced, this production schedule suggests that fans won’t have to endure an agonizingly long wait, with a premiere likely in late 2026.
All four seasons of The Witcher are currently available to stream on Netflix, giving fans plenty of time to catch up before the final hunt begins.
