A Miraculous Recovery and Return to Set
In an exclusive interview, Jeremy Renner has shared a powerful update on his health, stating he feels “much stronger, much clearer, happier” almost three years after a snowplow accident that nearly claimed his life. The actor is back on screen for the fourth season of the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown,” which returns Sunday, October 26.
Reflecting on his journey, Renner, 54, contrasted his experience filming the new season with the previous one. “Season 3 was the one where I was pretty affected. That was really a year off the incident,” he explained. “Two years off of it, this season, I’m much stronger, much clearer, happier, more awake and attentive. So yeah, we really enjoyed this experience.”
The Accident That Shocked the World
On New Year’s Day 2023, the “Avengers” star was horrifically crushed by a 14,000-pound snowplow while attempting to save his nephew from the machine’s path at his Nevada home. The incident left him with a catastrophic list of injuries, including over 30 broken bones, 14 broken ribs, a spinal fracture, a punctured lung, and a major head laceration. The brutal ordeal led him to question his “ability to be able to do fiction,” but he has since rediscovered his passion. “I found a voice to get back into entertainment, which was so far away from my life, prior to that,” Renner shared.
New Tensions in Kingstown Season 4
In the upcoming season, Renner’s character, Mike McLusky, finds himself in a power struggle with a formidable new adversary: prison warden Nina, played by the acclaimed Edie Falco. Renner described their on-screen relationship as “a lot of fun” and a form of “athletic” verbal sparring, likening their intense scenes to “chess moves.”
Edie Falco on Her Powerful New Role
For Falco, the role marks a significant return to a world of power dynamics, though she draws a clear distinction between Nina and her iconic character, Carmela Soprano. “Carmela was who she was based on her relationship to a very powerful man,” Falco told The Post. In contrast, “Nina is a self-made woman. I think her power is her own, and it comes from something that she does, and that she does well. It’s a sense of confidence and unshakable in who you are.”
