Xiaomi recently showcased its 200-watt wired and 120-watt wireless fast charging technology. The technology is available in the Mi 11 Pro. Xiaomi’s newest flagship smartphone can be charged up to 100% in eight minutes. That’s the fastest we know of so far. If that’s not enough, know that it can also be fully charged wirelessly in 15 minutes. It is the first mobile device to enter the 10-minute mark for cable charging. It also breaks the record for entering the 100-watt mark for wireless charging.
The 200W charging solution of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is really impressive. You don’t have to wait hours before you can use your smartphone without fear of losing power easily. Even if the battery is low, it only takes less than ten minutes to fully charge it.
That is a very good development, but there is a downside. The battery capacity will drain at a faster rate. Batteries degrade over time, but with this super-fast development, we can expect the battery to degrade even faster.
Typically, two years of almost daily charging will reduce battery capacity by up to 80% in two years. As for Xiaomi, the company saying 800 charge and discharge cycles at 200W will degrade the battery to 80%. That should happen in more than two years, which we think is normal for daily charging.
120W to 200W charging solutions are not really normal. Only a few phones come with such advanced technology. It’s something we think is important but may not really be necessary all the time. Xiaomi has just shown that it can really make things better.
