Waze adds Audible to the in-app audio player

Whether you’re driving to work every day or visiting a new place or taking a long car trip, the Waze navigation app is probably the app you’ve opened on your smartphone. The Google-owned app has previously added other apps that you can use alongside it, specifically in its audio player. You have music apps like Spotify and YouTube Music. If you’d rather have audiobooks and other similar content played while you drive, you can now add the Amazon-owned Audiobooks app Audible as well.

Those who already have Audible memberships will now be able to add the app to the Audio Player Program so they can listen to content with “meaning, learning, art, and storytelling.” It has over 600,000 articles in its library including Audible Originals, audiobooks, podcasts, and other audio programs. There is something for everyone, especially if you have other people in the vehicle with you.

Of course, you will need to have an Audible account and connect it to your Waze app. Once you are logged in, just tap on the music note icon in the upper right corner of the app. Choose Audible from your connected audio apps, if you have any. You can then start listening to the audiobook of your choice and at the same time receive instructions from Waze for the next spin from within the Audible app.

Applications that want to integrate their audio experience into Waze must do so through the Waze Audio Kit. In addition to Spotify and YouTube Music, it is also compatible with other audio players such as Amazon Music, Deezer, NPR One, Pandora, Stitcher, TIDAL, etc. Other audiobook applications such as Audiobooks.com and Scribd are also supported. You’ll never be short of audio content in your car, even if you’re using Waze for turn-by-turn directions.

The Waze audio player integration for Audible it is already being rolled out for users. Developers who want to integrate their audio application can also order the Waze Audio Kit.
