Now that there are plenty of truly wireless headphones on the market, the industry is looking at what’s the next big thing. Swedish lifestyle audio brand Urbanista would like to present its newest device as a candidate. The Urbanista Los Angeles headphones are the first of their kind as they are a solar powered device that shouldn’t run out of power as long as you are always in the presence of sunlight and even interior lights. And with a price tag of around $ 233, it’s not a bad deal.
The specifications of the Urbanista Los Angeles appear to be quite similar to its existing Miami range. It comes with 40mm neodymium drivers and 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response. It also has a built-in microphone so you can take calls and it is also compatible with the Google Assistant. It has USB-C charging, Bluetooth 5.0 compatibility, and on-ear detection. It also has active noise cancellation on demand, but also an ambient sound mode if you need to be more attentive to your surroundings.
But of course the selling point of these headphones is that they are solar powered, according to Wired. It is capable of converting all types of light, whether exterior or interior, into energy. Urbanista is using Powerfoyle as a solar source. Solar charging means you get almost infinite playtime for your device. When you walk outside on a sunny day for an hour, you can get 3 hours of playtime, and if it’s cloudy, you have 2 hours for every 1 hour you spend outdoors. If you use them when you are indoors, you also get energy from ambient light.
You can also leave your headphones by the window for an hour and it should also have an hour of playtime. But if you’re still worried about running out of power if you can’t get power, the Los Angeles Urban Planner has a 50-hour battery life with the 750mAh power pack that’s on board. There is also a carrying case, USB-C charging cable, audio cable, and airplane adapter. For now, it only comes in Midnight Black, but more colors will be coming soon.
The Los Angeles Urbanista is available at £ 169 or around $ 233. It doesn’t appear to be available yet, but you can sign up to be notified when it’s available to order or even pre-order.
