Live audio and video chats seem to be the favorites of social media users now. Clubhouse’s popularity sparked Twitter Spaces and other future features from brands like Facebook, Telegram, etc. The recently introduced Instagram Live Rooms are also kind of an offshoot of this trend and now it’s getting a little update that may be important to some who want a different experience. Hosts will be able to mute the audio or turn off the video as they would in other video conferencing applications.
Instagram Live Rooms launched last March. It’s basically similar to the popular Instagram Live feature, except this time you can video chat with three other people in your live session. It’s giving off talk show vibes if that’s what you think your audience likes. Now according to Mashable, there is a slight change to the feature, as hosts will be able to mute their audio or video while they are live.
The ability to mute your video should give it a more clubhouse-like feel, as fans will only be able to hear participants in the live room. This should also take the pressure off of looking a certain way or even dressing or putting on makeup if you didn’t feel like doing a shoot on camera. We’re not really sure what an audio shutdown experience would bring to Instagram Live Rooms, but the option is there.
For now, the host can only turn the audio or video on and off for himself and not for others who are part of the live stream. Instagram said they are working on offering more options for the host and will be rolling them out soon, so hopefully more announcements soon. In the meantime, we are waiting for Facebook to launch its audio chat feature in Messenger Rooms, so expect to hear more about that soon.
The new Instagram Live Room feature should be available to users now. Instagram also said that Live Rooms should be available to everyone around the world soon.
