In less than a month, Samsung will officially reveal the new foldable phones. They will be the new offering of premium phones from the South Korean tech giant. The duo will replace the Galaxy Note 21 series that has been canceled. Specifically, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 are entering the category of folding phones. Many details have been leaked and mentioned, but in the coming days and up until the Galaxy Unpacked event, more are expected to be revealed.
When asked if the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be waterproof, a source saying they are IPX8. IPX8 means that the devices can be submerged more than one meter deep. It can survive splashing water in most directions. You can also temporarily submerge phones with this rating.
So the phones are waterproof. However, they will not offer resistance to dust. We mentioned that these two would come with an IP rating and it’s confirmed. We are just not sure of the exact rating.
An IP rating is important because it tells us how durable a phone is. The waterproof and dustproof IP ratings have different meanings. Gadgets that are very expensive, those that cost around a thousand dollars, you should have them. Last year, a teardown of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip revealed a not-so-dust-resistant design that was disappointing but totally understandable. This year, Samsung is expected to have created something more durable.
