DOOGEE is a Chinese phone maker that introduces powerful phones. By powerful devices we mean rugged smartphones and those with large batteries. We first heard the name three years ago when a true bezel-less smartphone, the Doogee MIX 4, was introduced. Then we learned about other Doogee phones that were given a very low price. The DOOGEE S90 followed as the first rugged and modular smartphone on the market. Since then, we have thought that Doogee designs only phones with premium features and a rugged shape.
At the beginning of March, the robust DOOGEE S86 Android phone with a super 8500 mAh battery was introduced. Doogee calls the phone like an “energy warrior”. We agree for the very large battery. Only a few OEMs have introduced a phone with such battery capacity as the Oukitel K10000 with a 10,000 mAh battery from five years ago.
Even Samsung doesn’t have any phones anywhere near that capacity. There was only the Samsung Galaxy M12 and the POCO M3 with 6000mAh batteries and the Nubia Tencent RedMagic 6 with its 5050mAh battery. We will also not forget the Samsung Galaxy F62 with a 7000mAh battery. The Gionee M2017 was also launched with a 7000 mAh battery.
The battery is definitely the selling point of the Doogee S86. It’s good enough to last a full day or more with standard use. Depending on the OEM, it can last up to four days.
The Doogee S86 looks like every inch of a rugged phone. It is ready for rough use in extreme conditions. It can ensure that dust, water splashes, weather changes and even drops will not harm the phone. No, it must not be dropped or thrown. It can survive accidental drops from a decent height. But then Doogee boasts that this phone is truly dustproof, waterproof, and drop-proof with IP68 and IP69K ratings.
Rugged phones are not exactly a normal category of phones, but there are many companies that are diving into this field. We’ve seen a few like the Kyocera DuraForce Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy XCover 5, and the Cat S62 Pro. Each phone serves a specific audience.
As for the DOOGEE S86, this Android phone may be the ideal everyday phone for those who like to capture their adventures. This thing can survive harsh conditions such as agriculture, manufacturing, industry, outdoors, and other hazardous environments.
This thing appears to be sturdy. It feels solid in one hand. It does not feel fragile. It never will. And with its MIL-STD-810G certification, we know it can last for a long time.
The phone comes with a rubber bumper on the edges and red strips on the sides. All four corners are protected with high-strength materials. These make the phone durable and sturdy. The body is made of strong steel skin. At the rear, there is some friction to allow a firm grip and feel of the device.
On the side, there is the fingerprint sensor. The 16.88mm thickness is perfect, allowing for a more secure grip again. The full dimensions of the device are 16.88mm x 164.6mm x 81.22mm.
Specifications and performance
Hardware and performance always go hand in hand. Most of the time, the specifications determine the performance of a device. Of course, there is still the operating system or software that makes things work, but generally, you will know how a phone will work when you see the list of specifications.
The phone features a 6.1-inch Corning Gorilla Glass with an HD + display and a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera. It’s IPS LCD and it comes with a 60Hz refresh rate. It runs on 6GB of RAM, 128GB of ROM, and the Helio P60 octa core 2.0GHz 12nm. This processor was prepared for more AI functions. Expect reduced power consumption and an improvement in overall performance.
High-performance speakers are present thanks to a high volume power output. It still comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack plus NFC, so Google Pay is supported.
When it comes to visuals, Doogee has made some improvements compared to previous phones. It’s not exactly the best camera phone around today. It won’t compete with the higher-end models, but the results are decent enough.
The Doogee S86 It comes with a 16MP AI main camera. The camera is assisted by four high-brightness flashes to capture every detail and moment, even in low light conditions. The main camera is also linked by an 8MP wide lens, 2MP macro shooter, and 2MP depth sensor to complete the quad camera setup. The 8MP selfie shooter lets you capture your best side with the AI beautification feature.
The Doogee S86 will never be considered the best smartphone. It’s only an average ranger, but it offers decent mobile performance. It can be used as a secondary phone or maybe as something you can bring while outdoors or in less than ideal work environments. You can rely on its sturdiness and durability, but don’t abuse it.
For something at the $ 200 price point (or even less), the DOGEE S86 may still be a worthy option. The 8500 mAh battery makes it a winner in this area. You don’t really have to charge the phone every day, although it may take longer to fully charge the battery.
