Before their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders have been told by the IPL that Sunil Narayan’s action has been approved and the warning list has been taken off.
In a media statement released on Sunday, the IPL said that Naren was “suspended” by the tournament’s suspected Bowling Action Committee. The committee includes Rahul Dravid, ICC match referee Javagal Srinath, former ICC umpire Hariharan and BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal.
“KKR requested IPL Suspicious Bowling Action Committee for an official assessment of Mr. Narayana’s action; IPL statement presented slow action footage.” “The committee has carefully looked into the naked eye of all deliveries of action footage sent to Mr. Naren and has come to the conclusion that elbow-twist falls within the allowable range.”
Both Naren and the Knight Riders were surprised after the IPL put the bowler on the warning list soon after playing a match-winning role in a two-run win against Kings XI Punjab on 10 October.
Naren was bowled by on-field umpires Ulhas Gandhe and Chris Gaffney by Naren with questionable action occurring during the last over of the match when Kings XI needed 14 runs to win. The IPL did not reveal what type of delivery was communicated to Narayan. However, ESPNcricinfo understands that IPL in its official report highlighted all of Naren’s four overs against Kings XI.
