Instagram Unveils Exclusive “Rings” Awards
In a move set to shake up the creator economy, the Meta-owned platform Instagram has announced the launch of “Instagram Rings,” a new awards program designed to celebrate its most innovative users. However, the catch is its extreme exclusivity: only 25 creators will be chosen from a pool of over three billion, sparking debate about who gets recognized in the crowded digital space.
The Ultimate Status Symbol
The 25 honorees won’t just receive a title; they will be gifted a physical ring designed by acclaimed English fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner. More importantly, they will unlock digital features that are, for now, unattainable for the average user.
Winners’ profiles will be distinguished by a unique golden ring around their stories, replacing the standard gradient. They will also gain the never-before-seen ability to customize the background color of their Instagram profile, creating a powerful visual indicator of their elite status. Their content is also set to be featured in a special spotlight feed within the app.
Judged by Industry Icons
Lending immense credibility to the awards is a star-studded panel of judges. Alongside Instagram head Adam Mosseri and head of fashion partnerships Eva Chen, the committee includes director Spike Lee, designer Marc Jacobs, actress Yara Shahidi, and makeup artist Pat McGrath.
“We were looking for people who take creative chances and who are always pushing the envelope,” said Chen, who admitted that narrowing the list down to just 25 was “a challenge.”
Instagram hopes “Rings” will become an annual event, positioning it as the digital equivalent of the Oscars or Grammys and creating a new benchmark for creator achievement that millions will aspire to but few will ever reach.
