HBO Max Price Hike Hits Subscribers Again
  • HBO Max has increased the monthly and annual prices for all of its subscription plans, effective immediately for new users.
  • This marks the third price hike for the streaming service in the last three years, following a larger industry trend of rising subscription costs.
  • The Basic with Ads plan now costs $10.99/month, the Standard plan is $18.49/month, and the Premium tier has risen to $22.99/month.
  • Existing monthly subscribers will see the new prices reflected on their next billing date on or after November 20, 2025.

Another Price Hike for HBO Max Subscribers

In a move that confirms the fears of many streaming customers, Warner Bros. Discovery has once again increased the prices for all HBO Max subscription tiers. Announced on Tuesday, October 21, this is the third time in as many years that the company has raised its prices, signaling a continued push for greater profitability in the competitive streaming market.

The New HBO Max Pricing Structure

The price adjustments affect all new subscribers immediately. The new costs for HBO Max are as follows:

Basic With Ads Plan

  • Monthly: Increased by $1 to $10.99
  • Annually: Increased by $10 to $109.99

Standard Plan (Ad-Free)

  • Monthly: Increased by $1.50 to $18.49
  • Annually: Increased by $15 to $184.99

Premium Plan (Ad-Free, 4K)

  • Monthly: Increased by $2 to $22.99
  • Annually: Increased by $20 to $229.99

When Will The Changes Affect You?

While new subscribers face the higher prices right away, existing customers have a short grace period. Those on a monthly plan will be notified 30 days in advance and will see the price increase on their first billing cycle on or after November 20, 2025. Current annual subscribers are safe from the hike until their subscription is up for renewal.

A Familiar Trend in the Streaming Wars

HBO Max is not alone in this strategy. The move mirrors recent price increases from nearly every other major player in the streaming industry, including Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, Apple TV, and Netflix. As companies pivot from chasing subscriber growth to focusing on financial returns, viewers are seeing the cost of their favorite services climb across the board.

Despite the price increase, Warner Bros. Discovery is highlighting its robust content library, which includes iconic HBO series like “Game of Thrones,” “Succession,” and “The Last of Us,” alongside popular shows like “Friends” and “Abbott Elementary.” The company also pointed to its upcoming slate of originals, including the “IT” prequel series “Welcome to Derry” and the next “Game of Thrones” spinoff, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” to justify the rising costs.
