A documentary based on the life of William Shatner continues. Coming from Legion M and Exhibit A Pictures, the documentary will be produced with the same audience as the production companies opening up funding of the project to the general public. This is in line with Legion M’s mission statement, which describes the organization as “the world’s first fan-owned entertainment company”. Details on what those who provided the funding for the documentary will receive in return have not yet been released, but Legion M currently has pledges available to reserve. The documentary has been a long time in coming for Shatner, 91, who has been contacted on several occasions about chronicling his life.
“Over the years I’ve had people approach me to do a documentary about my life, but I turned them all down because it didn’t seem like the right fit. That’s when I heard how the Legion M audience engaged Wants to. This, it was perfect,” Shatner said in a statement (h/t Diversity) “The fans are responsible for my career – it only feels right that they should own this document.”
The currently untitled documentary will be directed by Swiss filmmaker Alexandre O’Philippe, who has directed such documentaries. The People vs George Lucas (2010), doctor of the dead (2014), and Memory: The Origins of Aliens (2019).
“I grew up watching Bill Shatner on a black-and-white television in Switzerland. His first memories are from Colombo and The Twilight Zone. He’s a modern Renaissance figure. Omnipresent. Indispensable,” Philippe said in a statement. said in a statement. “This intimate film will uncover little-known and rarely-seen aspects of Bill’s career and philosophy, and will also revisit some of his most iconic roles and cultural moments through a new lens.”
Legion M’s co-founders, Paul Scanlan and Jeff Anison, praised Shatner for giving him the opportunity to create this special project.

Shatner will offer a first glimpse of the project at July’s San Diego Comic-Con in a Hall H panel moderated by Kevin Smith.
