A new look at Johnny Depp’s first feature film in three years has officially arrived. On Wednesday, France’s Why Not Productions unveiled the first teaser image for Jean Du Barry, an upcoming historical film starring Depp. The promo image, which you can see below, shows Depp as King Louis XV. The film will be directed by Maven, who also stars as the titular character in the project. Production reportedly began in France on 26 July, and will last 11 weeks.
Jean Du Barry Jean would be “independently inspired” by the life of Becu, who was born in 1743 as the illegitimate daughter of a poor seamstress, and went on to become his last official mistress through the court of Louis XV. Other cast members will include Louis Garrel, Pierre Richard and Noemi Lvovsky.
It comes after the ongoing legal proceedings involving Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard sued Depp for defamation after he wrote an op-ed about his previous marriage. Washington Post, in which she claimed that the actor verbally and physically abused her throughout their relationship. After Heard divorced the actor and obtained a temporary restraining order from him in May 2016, Depp and Heard’s legal troubles have been going on for several years now.
