Love & Thunder’s Natalie Portman Explains Balancing Power and Vulnerability

Thor: Love and Thunder Star Natalie Portman shares how she balances strength and vulnerability in the new film. AV Club The Mighty sat down with Thor to ask how his portrayal managed to communicate the tenderness of Jane Foster. The actress really finds that vulnerability can be a strength of its own kind. Plus, that kind of behavior is a little more concerning for her than the stoic female superhero. There are now many interpretations of women in the film. They May Range Everywhere, But In Foster’s Journey love and need It’s not what people usually see on the big screen. See what he said here below.

“That was something I was really excited about,” she admitted. “A lot of times when you have a female superhero, people are like, ‘Oh. To be a feminist, it has to be kick-a**!’ It should just be, ‘He’s too tough, he’s too strong.’ When a person can be many things, I find it much more relatable, and much more powerful.”

His co-star Chris Hemsworth thinks the new Thor totally kicks butt. But, she is also her own hero in many ways. Finding out their past seems a favorite for both of them.

“I mean, I started this journey with him [Portman], playing opposite him in the first film and now reuniting and putting Jane in a very different place and Thor in a very different place,” Hemsworth shared with Yahoo Entertainment. “It was so much fun and, you know. Well, we got a chance to answer some of the unanswered questions that we were left with the second film when they split. We didn’t really know what really happened. Did he throw it? Did he dump her? Who left who? etc. So we had a lot of fun answering those questions.”

He continued, “She comes in and definitely kicks some ass. It’s interesting for Thor to figure out that idea and catch or hold on because he’s like ‘Who am I?’ And it’s a little confusing to see someone else dressed like that.”

Here’s how Marvel Studios is billing The Mighty Thor’s big debut in the MCU: “The film finds Thor on a journey he has never faced – the search for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic assassin known as Gor the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To counter the threat, the help of Thor King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer, Mjolnir as mighty Thor. Together, they set out to uncover the mystery of Lord Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Let the harsh cosmic adventure begin.”
