Eric Fellner, co-chair of Working Title, the studio behind the four hit films, expressed his excitement about the tribute. “I think it’s great because Bridget’s a proper London heroine,” Fellner stated. “The idea of having Bridget ever present in a brilliant location in the centre of London is really exciting.”
Zellweger is scheduled to attend the unveiling, alongside co-star Sally Phillips (Shazza) and Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall, who starred in the most recent film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
Joining an Exclusive Club of Cinema Icons
Designed by the London-based studio 3D Eye, the Bridget Jones statue will become a permanent fixture in the heart of London’s film district. It will join an esteemed collection of bronze figures portraying legendary characters such as Paddington Bear, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter, Batman, and Gene Kelly from Singin’ in the Rain.
Significantly, this marks a first for the famous square. “This is the first time they’ve had a romantic comedy character,” Fellner added, highlighting the unique cultural impact of Bridget Jones. It remains a mystery whether the statue will depict the character with her signature glass of chardonnay and diary in hand or reflect a more mature version from the latest film.

For over two decades, Bridget Jones has resonated with audiences worldwide. The first film, Bridget Jones’s Diary, premiered 24 years ago and was followed by three successful sequels, which have collectively grossed nearly $900 million globally. Fellner celebrated the journey from page to permanent landmark. “I love the idea that [Fielding’s] brilliant writing in a newspaper 30 years ago ends up as a statue in Leicester Square,” he said. “It’s kind of gorgeous.” While there are no official plans for a fifth film, both Fellner and Zellweger have expressed enthusiasm for returning to the character should Fielding pen another chapter in Bridget’s life.
