beast hits theaters tonight and will see Idris Elba, Leah Jeffries and Iyanna Haley as a family being hunted by a giant lion. The new thriller was directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest) and currently has a critics score of 76% on rotten Tomatoes, recently, comicbook.comK Brandon Davis got a chance to chat with some of the people involved in the film, and they talked about bringing the lion to life.
“Man, I mean, obviously there’s no lion in it, but it sure was, we really had to pay attention,” Elba (Dr. Nate Samuels) explained. “It’s a fictional story, lions don’t attack humans like this, but we wanted to make it realistic. I was really looking forward to making a film that would pull the audience from wherever they sat and Throw them in this family. The plight was there. So it was interesting, it was really hard work too.”
“I was chatting with a stunt man with, like, gray tights, clubby claws, and a head where he could just see, just like a pod, almost like a Disney character,” Sharlto Copley (Martin Battle) ) shared. “You know, like the worst version of a Disney character, it’s all grey. And then it’s like photographing, you know, someone at Disneyland. But it’s different, it’s wrestling and, it’s a more hardcore version I can say.”
“I think it’s definitely created like new challenges, but in a good way because I think you have to make sure you’re extra focused, because if, like, one person messes up , so we have to start all over again. Because again, it’s a long shot. So, it was challenging but, like, in a good learning way, you know?” Hailey (Meredith Samuels) explained.
“In this movie, seven minutes long and for those who like stuff and stuff, a lot of them weren’t even nearly part of the script,” said Jeffries (Nora Samuels). “Like, we were so in character sometimes that we wanted to improv and things and stuff, and we’d be like, ‘Oh, we have to hurry. We have to get to this. We have to get to that.’ Like, we were so into it all the time that it was almost our real feelings and things.”
Elba compared Lion to working with Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Unwear.
“Thanos is too long, I’m not going to lie, but no, I mean, the process of Lion and Lion was absolutely incredible, really detailed. But Thanos, that was cool too,” he shared.
