HBO Max introduces new mobile app and desktop updates

HBO Max has been a hot topic of discussion since last week, as Warner Bros. is making several changes to the Discovery streaming service to adapt it to plans for the new regime. planned projects, such as bat girl, have been canceled during production, and significantly underperforming titles have been removed from HBO Max altogether. Subscribers have grown tired of the changes to HBO Max of late, but Monday brought some good news for streamers.

A new press release from Warner Bros. Discovery revealed a new update that had just rolled out to HBO Max, bringing some much-needed changes to the mobile app and desktop experiences. These changes include a Shuffle button that now works on the iPad and iPhone, as well as updated SharePlay support.

“We are delighted to introduce the revamped HBO Max mobile and desktop apps,” said Kamyar Keshmiri, SVP, Product Design, Warner Bros. Discovery Streaming. “Changes gives our users more of the features they care about most, along with better navigation and a more immersive canvas for storytelling, enabling them to click on their favorite content faster and with less friction. Let’s help.”

Here’s the full list of new HBO Max updates, per the company’s press release:

  • Shuffle button functionality extension for mobile devices. Previously only available on desktop and CTV experiences, the feature gives users the ability to randomize the first episode that plays for select series on the platform.
  • SharePlay support for iPhone and iPad users (US only)
  • Subscribers in the US with an ad-free plan and an iPhone or iPad can now use SharePlay to watch their favorite HBO Max programs in sync with friends and family over FaceTime calls.
  • A dedicated home for downloaded content with better performance and stability
  • Tablet support for both landscape and portrait orientation
  • An improved screen reader experience with improved navigation elements and functionality
  • Ability to split the screen with other apps on any Behavior-supported mobile device
  • Updated, intuitive navigation
  • A sophisticated design and visual style to let the content shine
  • Chromecast stability improvements
