HBO Max Insider Says “No Project Is Perfectly Safe” From Cancellation

Since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger closed earlier this year, the group has been canceling movies and television shows week by week in an effort to bolster the two businesses. Earlier this month, a David Zaslav-led company sent Batgirl to the chopping block, despite the film having already completed principal photography. Although it has been said that the show prefers peacemaker and even longer gesture Green Lantern Corps The series was safe, a new insider says, adding that anything in the studio could be removed at a moment’s notice.

“Those shows are safe now,” an HBO Max source recently told time limit, “But no project is completely secure. Everything is being evaluated. They’re going to look at all of them, right now everything is being driven by finance, so just because it’s safe today, That doesn’t mean they don’t take another look and say ‘Maybe it would be better to write off the tax.'”

Shortly after Batgirl news broke, Warner Bros.

“Our ambition is to bring Warner back and produce great high quality films, and as we see the opportunities that we have widely, DC is at the top of the list for us,” said Zaslav of the company. Explained earlier this month during the Q2 earnings call. “You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman – these are brands that are known everywhere in the world. The ability to drive those people around the world with great storytelling is a huge opportunity for us.”

The executive said DC is one of the company’s biggest pieces of IP, and it was currently undergoing a reset to shape DC Films into a formidable competitor to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“We’ve done a reset. We’ve restructured the business. We’re going to focus. There will be a team with a 10-year plan focusing on DC. It’s structure is very similar to that of Alan Horn and Bob Iger at Disney Together with Kevin Feige in the U.S., very effectively. We think we can build a more robust, sustainable growth business long-term outside of DC,” said Zaslav.

He concluded, “And as part of that, we are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it is ready. We are not going to release a film to make quarters. The focus is going to be – how do we make each of these movies, in general, as good as possible? DC is something that we think we can make better, and now we’re on it We are concentrating. We have some great DC movies coming out – Black Adam, Shazam!, And flamboyant, We are working on all of them. We are very excited about them.”
