According to STXfilms, the sequel follows John and Allison Garrity as they leave the safety of their Greenland bunker after a comet strike decimates much of the planet. The family must traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.

STXfilms has shared a gallery of character posters highlighting the film’s leads. Each poster frames a member of the Garrity family looking onward as comets streak across the sky — a visual blend of peril and reluctant optimism.

Cast, crew and how the sequel got greenlit
Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin reprise their roles as John and Allison Garrity. Roman Griffin Davis steps into the role of Nathan Garrity. The supporting cast includes Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie.
Ric Roman Waugh directs from a screenplay by Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling. Producers on the film include Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road Pictures, Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and John Zois, G-BASE’s Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel, and CineMachine’s Brendon Boyea. Executive producers include Robert Simonds, Noah Fogelson, Sam Brown, Ric Roman Waugh and Chris Sparling.
The sequel drew major attention on the market and was acquired in a high-profile deal at the Cannes virtual market. STX reportedly paid roughly $75 million for the project — including $25 million for domestic rights and around $50 million for international rights from Anton — outbidding multiple streamers and securing the follow-up to the original film.
