Doctor Strange 2 filmmaker confirms Illuminati members were last-minute additions

It has been known for quite some time that Marvel is constantly writing scripts for its various projects, changing lines on the fly several times during filming. Even when it comes to major looks, things can change at the drop of a hat. Case in point, Black Bolt (Anson Mount) and Reed Richards (John Krasinski) were added late in the film. So late, in fact, that the production crew didn’t have time to create practical costumes for the actors.

“Yeah, I’m sorry for that [Marvel VFX supervisor] Genek Siers said he had to shoehorn her at the last minute. We had designs for other characters, and then we didn’t have casting and there were travel restrictions,” Multiverse of Madness costume designer Graham Churchyard said in a recent interview comicbookmovie,

He continued, “When we were shooting for Illuminati in London, actors like Sir Patrick couldn’t come to London because of travel. Richie Palmer and everyone had a huge wish list of who was going to be in Illuminati. When it was It was too late to build something locally in Los Angeles, to decide which two characters came. It was just too late and too close.”

Churchyard stated that not all Illuminati members wore VFX suits. When it comes to Lashana Lynch’s multiversal Captain Marvel, it was a practical design.

“Lashana Lynch as Captain Marvel… We built it completely from scratch. We start with a 3D scan in a photogrammetry booth, and then we work on a form of the person and the costume on top of that.” Let’s start building the computer and carve things out,” the designer continued. “Then we’re printing them, molding them, and then get to the point where we say, ‘Let’s bring the actor in for a fitting’ and fix it until you get something like Go. I was really pleased with Lashana’s dress. Fit and performance, and she was able to fight. All I’m saying is that a lot has been cut and it’s a very early end for the Illuminati. We’ve got a ton more Shot, but maybe it will be on Blue-Kiran.”
