Pixar and Disney recently brought beloved Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear back to the big screen, showing fans around the world a different side of the character they first met toy story, light year Essentially that sci-fi movie that inspired the toy that Andy got for his birthday all those years ago. Instead of just a toy, this version is a full-fledged action hero, with longtime Captain America star Chris Evans lent his voice.
As it turns out, there’s a really good bit in Captain America and hero Buzz Lightyear. in a recent episode Inside the D23 Disney PodcastEvans opened up about the similarities between his two characters.
“Well, I mean they’re definitely both leaders. They’re both determined and selfless and honest and loyal to their friends,” Evans said. “Buzz strikes me as someone who probably knew about himself very early in life, you know, I think Buzz was probably the hall monitor and the Boy Scout and the class president and was always very much in his life choices. Were confident. Cap probably took a little longer to understand his role in life and how to fulfill what was inside him and Cap probably had more cowardice and humility and uncertainty.”
While Tim Allen voiced the toy version of Buzz Lightyear for decades, the filmmakers behind Pixar’s latest idea needed a slightly different “real” version of the character.
“Cause he’s a side character toy story, we were going to try to figure out how to put this into a main character, but we needed to have a certain beauty, a certain sensibility to the class with his lantern jaws, but do it in a way that Looks like it was inspired by something Lightyear director Angus MacLaine told ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview. If you see we got it very quickly toy story again, you imagine a whole movie [with that Buzz]The man who’s going, ‘Okay, here I go. Look, I’m going there. Oh no, look, monster!’ You get tired of it very quickly. And so thoughts, some revelations about how we were able to thread that needle and make it a more well-rounded character were essential to maintaining a feature.”
