Will Smith’s ex Sherry Zampino admits to ‘bumped heads’ during co-parenting

Sherry Zampino is opening up about what it’s like to co-parent Trey Smith with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills The star admits it hasn’t always been easy — and if it sounds easy, it’s because he’s put in all the work.

during a recent episode behind red velvet Podcast, Sherry shared that she, Will, and Jada have not only been able to make their co-parenting relationship work, but have thrived. Sherri said that, ultimately, it will always come down to realizing who her priorities are in life.

“I wouldn’t say it’s easy. I feel like I always have my baby in my heart. My baby comes first,” Sherry said. “So, it’s not about me anymore. We’re not together [meaning Sheree and Will], it was about. Then Jaden comes along, then Will gets these kids. So, how do we do it where we respect and put them first and we don’t deprive them of anything good? [The] The good thing is that they have a relationship with each other. The relationship they have with me. What’s my son’s relationship with Jada, you know?”

sherry and King Richard The star was married from 1992 to 1995 and has a child together, 29-year-old Trey. Will and Jada married in 1997, and have two children together – Jaden, 24, and Willow, 21.

the former Hollywood Exes Star said being on the same page was, and is, important. He gave a lot of credit to Jada for helping him make it a smooth transition for the then young Trey.

“It’s easier when you have mutual respect. When you get yourself out of the way, like, this isn’t about me,” Sherry explained. “It’s about her, and my point was, with Jada, it was like, ‘As long as she treats him well, we’re good. We’re good.’ And he’s treated her well and she loves him. Sometimes moms get jealous. It’s like, ‘I’m jealous of the other woman because she’s treating my baby, right?’ What?! He’s crazy. Isn’t he? want Will he treat your child right? it could be worse. Think about the other side of it. It could be terrible. If the new wife or new girlfriend is treating this child right, you shouldn’t have a problem. Really, what’s the problem? it’s not rocket science. it’s not difficult. That part of it isn’t hard.”

But there have been challenges, and Sherry admits they have hit heads from time to time.

“You got three different dynamics, three different personalities and different belief systems, different ways of doing things,” she said. “And there have been times we’ve bumped heads and it hasn’t been pretty. But listen, we get back on that horse and we move on. We do what we have to do because again, at the end of the day, It’s about the kids. We have a responsibility towards them.”

Proving how close they’ve been in 2018, Sherry served as the opening guest on Jada’s popular Facebook Watch show, red table talk, The emotional chat (both women cried) made headlines, as Sherry and Jada delved deeper into their past beef and current friendship for the first time.

Sherry, who opened up to ET about being identified as “Will Smith’s ex-wife” in 2020, brought Jada to tears when she thanked him for “loving my baby.”
