What will be the new Marvel animated series that will be seen by Disney Plus

Marvel Studios announced three animated series that are in development. Is about X-Men ’97, Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Marvel zombies, which will be issued by Disney Plus. They thus join two other animations on the way: season 2 of What If … ?? and I am groot, the spin-off of Guardians of the Galaxy.

In 2019, when Disney bought 20th Century Fox, the movie franchise of X Men it was in its last stages. After the badly received Dark phoenix and The new mutants, Marvel Studios was expected to restart the X Men and integrate the characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Instead, the company is going back to the roots. As reported by Variety, X-Men ’97 will premiere in 2023 and will be a continuation of the animated series X Men, which aired for five seasons on the Fox network from 1992 to 1997.

The show debuted in prime time before moving on to Saturday mornings and was such a success that it was one of the reasons Fox gave the live-action movie the green light. X Men, which premiered in 2000 and launched the modern era of superhero cinema.

One of the associate producers on that film was the current head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige. So it is not risky to say that without the animated series X Men, Marvel Studios might not exist.

Beau DeMayo will be the main screenwriter for X-Men 97. Its immediate antecedent is to have been the author of The Witcher: The Wolf’s Nightmare, an animated spin-off of the popular Netflix series.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year

This animated series will be linked to the MCU while evoking the deepest history of Marvel. It will have an aesthetic focus that, according to a press release, “celebrates the character’s early comic book roots“.

The story will follow Peter Parker on his journey to become Spider-Man within the MCU, suggesting that he could go back to the origin story of the Spiderman, something that live action movies with Tom Holland completely overlooked.

The main screenwriter will be Jeff Trammel, writer and actor of the series Craig of the creekby Cartoon Network.

Marvel zombies

In What If ...?  The Avengers Transformed Into Zombies.

In What If …? the Avengers transformed into zombies.

It will also connect with Marvel comics. Specifically with a limited series written by Robert Kirkman with art by Sean Phillips that was released in late 2005, in which almost all the Avengers are turned into zombies.

That comic series was already freely adapted in an episode of the first season of the animated series What If … ??by Marvel Studios. The alternate universe premise of the episode involves a virus that rapidly infects most of the Avengers and causes a zombie apocalypse.

It ends with Spider-Man (voiced by Hudson Thames), T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), and Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) artificially preserved head traveling to Wakanda with the Mind Stone to create a cure for the virus. where the zombie Thanos awaits them with the Infinity Gauntlet.

It is not clear if Marvel zombies will be a spin-off of the zombie episode of What If … ?? or chart its own course, but Bryan Andrews, director of What If … ??, will direct this new series, with Zeb Wells as lead writer.
