After a two-year hiatus, HBO’s hypnotic puzzlebox series, done bySeason 4 is back. And the cast, including returning stars Jeffrey Wright and Luke Hemsworth, talk about why the new episodes were worth the wait, while Angela Sarafyan teases what the new installment feels like returning to Season 1.
“It takes us a while with this stuff. But good things come for those who wait,” Wright, who returns as Bernard Lowe, tells ET’s Rachel Smith, revealing that the first four episodes After seeing, “That’s cool.”
“There is something to be said about waiting for each episode because there is so much to digest with our show. It’s complicated stuff and there is a lot going on,” the actor continues, teasing that Sunday’s premiere will be open to fans. Will leave a lot to “marinate” before moving on to the second episode.
“It’s been a wild ride and I think fans are going to really love this season,” teasing Hemsworth, who continues to portray Ashley Stubbs, while Aaron Paul, who is back as Caleb , say, “This season is really just next level. This season is so big, so much bigger than the last one. ,
Picked up after the events of Season 3, after Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and the other hosts escape Delos Park and infiltrate the real world, while the other characters were still grappling with the truths revealed about Westworld in Season 2. , Season 4 is a dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on Earth, finding out what has happened as the lives of humans and hosts seem to blend together.
This season, “they’re going to sink their teeth into the fundamental questions they ask about the nature of their humanity,” teases Tessa Thompson, who returns as the villainous Charlotte Hale.
Additionally, there are returning characters — ahem, James Marsden — and new characters, as well as multiple timelines and lots of codified story that will leave viewers wondering what’s going on as they put all the puzzle pieces together.
“I’m excited to confuse everyone again and take everyone on a mind-bending journey,” says Hemsworth. “So, I’m looking forward to everyone’s theories.”
Marsden’s return as well as another visit to Delos Park – this time as 1930s Chicago teased in trailer –suggests that producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are slowly bringing this dystopian saga full circle.
“I was looking forward to this season. This might be my favorite,” says Sarafyan, who reprises her role as Clementine Pennyfeather, explaining that she enjoyed the writing this season. “I was fascinated by the poetry, the action, the love, the heartbreak. . I love all these.”
She adds, “It reminds me of Season 1, so it’s really exciting.”
Meanwhile, Marsden says that Nolan and Joey “don’t have to figure out what they’re doing for Season 4 and Season 5”. [because] They have done all this in a planned manner from the very beginning. And it has just started to emerge. ,
“We’ll see which types of relationships continue on different trajectories and which ones come back together,” he says.
Someone who always knew they would return for Season 4 is Wood, who played Dolores in the first three seasons. This time, though, “I’m a different character,” she says, explaining that “Dolores is not [alive]After her memories are erased at the end of Season 3.
“I knew I wasn’t going to come back as Dolores,” Wood says. Now, that’s Chrissy, someone who is “too human, too vulnerable, too dull”, the actress adds. “It was really starting from scratch.”
But considering how many changes her character has gone through each season, it’s safe to assume that more will be revealed about Chrissy soon. “it is done byAfter all,” Wood teases.
