Take off your robes and have your wands ready because the original Harry PotterCast meets for a special event! On Tuesday, HBO Max announced that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and other original franchise stars would be gathering Harry Potter 20th Birthday: Return to Hogwarts.
In a teaser trailer with footage from the original films, the streaming service teased the retrospective of one of the greatest franchises of all time.
Chris Columbus, the director of the first two films, as well as the stars Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis and more were listed for attending the special event.
The special will air at midnight on January 1, 2022 on HBO Max and feature the British stars celebrating their 20th anniversary. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. According to HBO Max, the special will “tell an enchanting making-of story through brand new, in-depth interviews and cast talks, and invite fans on a magical first-person journey”.
Noticeably absent from the list of participants is the Potter writer JK Rowling, who came under fire in 2020 for her very public transphobic comments. Several members of the cast, including Radcliffe, Watson and Grint, have come out in support of the transgender community following Rowling’s numerous testimonies and comments. It is not known whether she will attend the reunification.
ET spoke to Radcliffe in July about the 20th anniversary of potter and at the time he seemed unaware of any reunification plans.
“I have really fond memories of all of my scenes with Gary Oldman and David Thewlis. It was some of the opening scenes from the third and fifth films that made me feel like I was a young man who was just starting to think out what acting was, and they were pretty cool people, “Radcliffe told ET .
