Tom Cruise reveals Prince William received advance screening of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ (exclusive)

Tom Cruise gives an early glimpse of Prince William Top Gun: Maverick, ET’s Rachel Smith spoke with the 59-year-old actor at the UK premiere of his latest film, and Cruise confirmed reports that the Duke of Cambridge had been considered for an initial screening of the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 flick .

“Yeah, early,” Tom confirmed at the initial royal screening, which he allegedly arranged Upon learning that William, a trained helicopter pilot who served in the Royal Air Force, was a huge fan of the original film.

“He’s an aviator, so I knew he’d have a lot of fun,” Tom said of William.

While Tom said that he and William hadn’t flown together yet, he didn’t rule out the possibility of doing so in the future. “Pilots are pilots. We all want to fly,” the actor said.

William and his wife, Kate Middleton, also attended Thursday’s event, where they met with representatives of the film’s cast and crew as well. Film and TV CharityWhich supports people working behind the scenes in the UK film and television industry.

“It’s very special,” Tom told ET of the Royals’ appearance. “I’m here with the actors… I wanted them to have an experience like this. And then having a royal premiere in England is very special. It’s very, very special.”

As for the film itself, Tom hopes it’s worth the decades-long wait.

“When I was a little kid I wanted to make movies,” he said. “… I wanted to make movies, I wanted to fly, I wanted to travel the world … and meet people. I was always curious, like ‘How’s that person?’ I wanted to sit and talk to him. I wanted to be in his world. I used to dream of him. If you look at my films, that’s it. It’s a sense of adventure, a sense of travel.”

“My whole life, it’s been an exploration of adventure, an interest in people and philosophy and film and art,” Cruz said. ,[I have been] I am constantly pushing myself. So I just wasn’t going to make this film. It’s been 36 years… people [have been] asking for it. I didn’t want to disappoint them.”

Top Gun: Maverick Will hit theaters on May 24.
