The end is almost here. As this is us The series’ final episode on Tuesday focused on Rebecca and her final hours. Titled “The Train”, the episode revolves around goodbye. As Rebecca was on her last breath in the future, a little one of hers – gleaming in a glamorous red gown – is carried on the metaphorical train in her unconscious dream, where she is reunited with many familiar faces as she gets closer and closer. The light had reached close.
One of the first people who died when she boarded the train was Randall’s late birth father, William (guest star Ron Cephas Jones), who acted as a guide for her as she weaved in and out of the train cars. Was. , which kept various important people in her life and family. Of course, the train served as a mirror for what’s going on in real life as members of the expanded Pearson clan—all of whom have gathered to pay their respects to the Pearson matriarch—say goodbye to Rebecca. Went one by one.
Beth first went to Rebecca’s bedside when she was a teenager and credits her for caring for her in a touching speech. “All these years, there were times I was going to fake it. I was doing my best impression of Rebecca,” she said, expressing her gratitude for Rebecca showing her the way to being a loving mother. She promised that she would take care of Randall from now on. “I’ll take him the rest of the way. Thanks for helping me with that complicated, unreliable, handsome guy you raised. But I get him now.”
Kevin’s wife, Sophie, proceeded to say her last words to Rebecca, followed by other members of the extended family, including Toby and an adult Annie. As the night wore on and evening wore on, Rebecca was left with Kevin and Randall as they stayed with her as they passed through the night. Meanwhile, Kate races against the clock to get to her mother on time as she boarded a flight home that didn’t arrive until morning.
On the Train (aka Rebecca’s Dreamland), after reuniting with Dr. Kay (guest star Gerald McRaney), who praises and tells her that she is strong-willed even after all the loss (her kids, then her husband) That she earned Comfort, she was once again face-to-face with Miguel, who reaffirmed that she was “his favorite person”.
In a powerful performance, Rebecca beat the odds and made it through the night – in time for Kate to run and be by her dying mother’s side. On the train, Rebecca stayed as long as she could, telling William that she was waiting for someone as he kindly showed her in the last train car. But when Kate finally arrived, Rebecca felt relieved and stepped inside the final train car—the final step as her story came to a natural end.
While Randall, Kevin and Kate all said a tearful goodbye to their mom, Rebecca turned to William on the train and asked for clarity on what this meant as she headed toward her own end.
“It’s sad enough isn’t it? The end,” she asked William.
“Oh, I don’t know. The way I see it. If something made you sad when it ended, it must have been great while it was happening,” replied William. “Frankly, I’ve always felt a little lazy to think of the world as sad because there’s so much in it. Because everything ends, everything dies. But if you hold back, if you step back and Let’s look at the whole picture. If you’re brave enough to give yourself the gift of a really wide perspective, if you do, you’ll see that the end isn’t tragic. It’s the beginning of the next incredibly beautiful thing.”
Back at Rebecca’s bed, Randall makes a simple request to his mom: “You tell her, ‘Hey.'” In this case “her” is Jack.
After William dropped Rebecca on the train, she lay on the bed, sat down for a moment, and then lay down—the rest that Dr. K said he had earned. When she turned, someone was waiting for her: Jack.
“Hey,” she said with just a smile.
“Hey,” replied Jack.
They met once again.
And William’s speech about the end was only a sign of the beautiful beginning, true to many side stories, as the final episode pointed out: Deja was revealed to be pregnant, the news she shared with a spirited Randall, And the father was none other than Malik – his first love / ex from years and years ago.
And Marcus Brooks, the aspiring scientist who suffered a leg injury during a traumatic car accident as a child, ended up developing a drug to help with Alzheimer’s. (It also happened that Jack collided with Marcus’ father in the hospital, hours before his family burned down. But he may have given Marcus’ father some words of wisdom, about the same motto lemon to lemon Making the water Dr. Kay shared with him and Rebecca, also became Brooks’ family motto.)
