Season 21 of The voice is in the top 13 singers, but one of the coaches has a small advantage over the others!
Kelly Clarkson has been touting her team’s strengths all season, but after the 14-year-old Hailey Mia won the first instant save of the season last week, Team Kelly has a real head start on the competition with four singers remaining on their team, while Blake Shelton, John Legend and Ariana Grande only have three each. Additionally, two of the top 13 singers from other teams – Team Legend’s Jershika Maple and Team Ariana’s Holly Forbes – were originally Team Kelly before they were stolen in the Battle and Knockout Rounds!
“There are some seasons when I have so many great singers that I get nervous and you have to give some to other teams,” Kelly told ET after the live performance on Monday.
While she’s definitely got a serious competitive spirit, the performer and talk show host admitted, “I honestly don’t care if Holly comes back and hits me on Ariana’s team or Jershika comes back and hits me on John’s team” are all artists, we want that they thrive. “
“Honestly, that means you won the blinds,” remarked John. “Because that means your team has so many great people that they stayed on the show no matter what team they were on.”
As for Hailey, who was originally Team Legend before Kelly stole her during the Battle Rounds, Kelly and John marveled at the youngest competitor of the season who, according to Kelly, “has such a keen sense of who she already is as an artist.”
“She has such an amazing voice – her tone, all of the sounds she makes, breath control – all she has is an amazing gift for any singer, let alone being 14,” she added. “It’s so amazing that such a young person can be such a great storyteller, even if they haven’t fully lived through the story, you know?”
“She’s such an old soul,” agreed John. “There is so much maturity in her voice.”
Follow ET during Season 21 to see performances by Hailey and the rest of the top 13 singers, and learn how to vote for your favorites!
