“The Pope is cool and I’m sure he likes reggaeton”

Colombian singer and songwriter J Balvin participated today with other artists in a meeting with the Pope Francisco in the Vatican for more than two hours and assured that the pontiff “likes reggaeton” and that he had “a good connection” with him.

“I was talking to him and we had a very good connection, I’m going to give him a record so he can have it,” he added amused.

J Balvin participated with other artists, such as the Mexicans Eduardo Verastegui and Alexander Achain a meeting convened by the Vitae Foundation, an institution that is concerned with studying how to take advantage of the arts, the media and entertainment to “promote unity, hope and the encounter between people at a global level”.

I’m sure he likes reggaeton. If you like soccer, you like reggaeton,” J Balvin told a small group of media after his meeting with Francisco.

The meeting

Regarding what was discussed during the meeting, the singer highlighted: “I can help with my music, with my concerts. Music is a means of sending positive messages. I think I can send a good message with my songs, in which I can talk about love, because I believe that God is love and compassion“.

To young people, J Balvin recommended that they listen or read the interviews with Francisco so that they can understand his message because it is “a totally different pope from the previous ones”.

During the meeting, which was behind closed doors, Pope Francis addressed a few words to them and then held a dialogue with all of them, asking them what they could contribute to achieve more beauty in the world or how they could have a greater commitment, some of the participants pointed out. .

In a brief statement, the Vatican reported that the Pope indicated some paths of communication, “such as truth, goodness and, particularly for artists, beauty, a path of contemplation.”

“You are preachers of beauty!” Francisco enthused them before finishing: “Beauty is good, beauty heals, beauty takes you forward on the path!”
