'The Masked Singer': Hydra Beheaded in Week 5 — See Which Iconic Couple Was Inside the Costume!

*Caution: Spoilers ahead!

Last week’s remaining contestants return to the stage on Wednesday masked singerAnd after all four costumed characters gave their memorable performances, fans had to bid farewell to another of them.

Hydra, Ringmaster, Armadillo and Teddy take to the stage and open their hearts. After all four songs were sung, fans voted and the bottom two vote-getters went face-to-face in another vocal performance.

Despite a lively performance of Armadillo’s “I Fight the Law” by Bobby Fuller Four and Hydra’s fun cover of “Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top, they face off in a musical showdown, and Hydra gets the axe.

Before the expose, the show’s panel of celebrity “spy” — which included Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy, as well as guest panelist Nicole Bayer — made their final guesses.

While all the judges correctly predicted that the Hydra was actually a pair and not a trio, despite the three heads, only Bayer managed to put the clues together correctly.

After figuring out how to take off the mask, the two reveal themselves to be none other than magicians Penn & Teller!

ET spoke with Penn about his time with Taylor on the show, and the famed magician and TV personality reflected on how the dress itself was a magical misdirection to hide his identity.

“If you look at pairings in showbusiness, we’re the first to pop up on Google. We knew we’d end up pretty quickly if we were two people, and we knew we’d be in a dress for one person. Can’t come, so three was a really good solution,” Penn shared.

He also said that when trying to keep the panel on its toes, most of the work came from Taylor, who changed her voice to sing with two different voices.

Penn said, “We knew my voice was so damaged by being Carney trash that I had no choice. I could sound like this and there’s no other way.” “So our real star was Taylor. Because they didn’t know Taylor’s voice and they did two voices… and I thought he was the absolute star of the whole show.”

Overall, Penn said that the experience of being on the show was truly wonderful, and expressed his admiration for the representation of the show.

He shared, “I’ve been on many, many, many shows that I don’t like, not particularly proud of, but it’s really a one of a kind show.” “We’ve become a culture in our entertainment that really enjoys cruelty. And I don’t think it’s healthy and I don’t find it enjoyable.”

He said, “But this show is just a celebration of life, a celebration of show business, and everyone who works on this show is filled with so much joy… It’s just wonderful.” “This show is our culture at best, and we’ve seen our culture at its worst.”

While Armadillo is clearly on thin ice, the only competitor in this group who seems really destined to make it to the finals is Ringmaster, who charmed the judges with Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” performance.

Meanwhile, Teddy ended the first round of the night’s contest with an unexpectedly gritty rendition of “Tell Me You Love Me” by Demi Lovato.

masked singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
