The Crown has earned a well-deserved reputation for the care it puts into historical re-enactments. But in its fifth season it is having difficulties to get the closest environment of Lady Di to collaborate in the new episodes that are being recorded, corresponding to the fifth season.

In an interview with the BBC, Charles Edward Maurice Spencer, 9th Earl of Spencer, the brother of the late Diana of Wales, gave new details of why he refused to give permission to the series to record in the mansion that the family has in Althorp.

How is Althorp House

The house is located more than a hundred kilometers from London, in the county of Northamptonshire (northern England). Diana was a teenager when she met Charles, the heir to the throne, almost by chance at Althorp House, the Northamptonshire county manor where “the village princess” was raised.

There supposedly their mortal remains rest, in a tomb located on an island that tourists can glimpse for payment. Although according to Argentine Roberto Devorik, a friend of the princess, Diana’s body is not on the island, but is buried with her father in the town church.

“They requested it. They wanted to record here. But I don’t do this kind of thing. I honestly don’t see The Crown so I said ‘thank you, but no,’ “commented Charles Spencer.

A year ago, the princess’s brother explained that he had a duty to protect the legacy of his late sister: “I feel like it’s my duty to defend her when I can”, He assured. “Diana left me, for example, as her children’s tutor, so she gave me great confidence (…) I feel like I have to have a role to honor her memory.”

Another slam to production

This refusal was added a week ago by one of Diana’s friends, Jemima Khan, who slammed the door on the production and asked for his name to be removed from the credits. They asked him for information so that the series was as truthful as possible and at first he agreed.

Khan explained that he agreed to participate despite never having spoken publicly about his friendship with the princess: “It was very important to me that my friend’s last years were portrayed accurately and compassionately, something that has not always happened in the past ”.

However, he decided to withdraw from the project after concluding that the portrait of Diana’s story by The Crown it was not being carried out with “as much respect and compassion” as she had hoped. So To defend the memory of her friend, she left the director standing Peter Morgan, with whom he had a brief romantic relationship that he broke up earlier this year.
