Music legend Joe Walsh is expected to appear on The Conners on January 19th. Ahead of his season four debut, which recently returned from winter break, ET has an exclusive first look at the 74-year-old as the brave, no-nonsense roofer and father of Aldo (Tony Cavalero) who isn’t happy his son is with Harris (Emma Kenney) lives together.
“Joe wants to separate Harris and Aldo. He feels like it’s not the game, ”executive producer Bruce Helford told ET.
As a result, Walsh’s character gets into a heated discussion with Dan (John Goodman), who unexpectedly defends his 19-year-old granddaughter’s ability to be a mature partner.
“The two of them are really fun, which is really fun,” teases Helford before revealing that the two of them are singing a song together at the end of the episode. “That’s damn nice too.”
Walsh’s appearance, along with Cavalero’s return as Aldo, is part of a grand plot that is about to be played by Harris. “We have Harris who is going through some big fighting,” Helford says of the younger member of the Conner family.
In fact, both Harris and her brother Mark (Ames McNamara) are going through some tough times this season as part of some “really great arcs” the producers put together for them.
Meanwhile, the upcoming episode marks Walsh’s return to the big screen after his recurring role as Ed on The Drew Carey Show. “And he really is one of the naturally funniest people I’ve ever worked with,” enthuses Helford.
In addition to Walsh and Cavalero, the fourth season is full of guest stars, including Brian Austin Green as Darlene’s colleague Jeff; Darien Sills-Evans as Becky’s old friend Mike; Fred Savage as Dr. Harding; Jason Alexander as Pastor Phil; Patton Oswalt as Don Blansky; Tabitha Brown as a local clairvoyant; and Timm Sharp as the bookstore owner named River.
The Conners airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET / PT on ABC.
