David Bowie was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Born in London on January 8, 1947 as David Robert Jones, the multi-talented icon picked up the glam rock era of the 70s as her alter ego “Ziggy Stardust” with her single “Starman”. From there, he was hit after the fact as he constantly transformed his styles and genres to grow his fan base. The songwriter “Fame” even ventured into acting, with roles in The man who fell to earth, Hunger and cult favorite Labyrinth. In January 2016, Bowie died at the age of 69 from a battle with liver cancer.
Although his contribution to the arts will endure, Bowie also leaves a legacy of two children. He has a son, Duncan jones, which he shared with his first wife Mary “Angie” Angela Barnett. The couple married in 1970 and divorced 10 years later. David then married a model Iman in 1992, the happy couple welcomed their daughter Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones. Duncan followed in his father’s footsteps in the realm of Hollywood, becoming a director, producer and screenwriter. Born May 30, 1971 in London, Duncan grew up in prestigious boarding schools under the name “Zowie”, which he chose to rhyme with his father’s stage name. After changing his name, he studied philosophy in America before returning to England to graduate from London Film School in 2011. His first foray into cinema was a huge success! His feature film, 2009’s Moon, was nominated for seven British Independent Film Awards, winning the Best British Independent Film Award and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best British Director.
As an avid gamer Duncan fulfilled a dream writing and directing the 2016s Warcraft, a blockbuster film based on the video game of the same name. “I’ve been a gamer my whole life and I was determined to make a good movie out of the game,” he said. David and Iman welcomed their only child together, their daughter Lexi, in August 2000. Although she misses her father very much, Lexi has her mother to lean on and the couple are incredibly close. On Mother’s Day 2020, Lexi shared a moving message, saying she was heartbroken at not being able to see Iman due to travel restrictions linked to the pandemic. “Everyone, please stay inside,” she wrote. “I haven’t seen my mom for 6 months because we live on opposite coasts, and it’s very difficult to leave NY right now. I’m a kid and miss her a lot, so please be partiers this time around so it doesn’t take two fucking years to see her again.
As for following in her mother’s footsteps in modeling, Lexi has to thank Iman for keeping her out of the spotlight to enjoy some privacy when she was still young. “Every agency, every designer called me to say, ‘If she wants it, we would like her to be a model for us’, but I said, ‘No, she doesn’t want it,'” Iman explained. at Carry magazine in 2018. “I know why they wanted her to be a model. It is because she is the daughter of David Bowie. She says I’m overprotective. But I said to him: ‘All this can wait. It’s not going anywhere. Have privacy while you can, because one day soon it will be public. So enjoy it.'”
