With all 10 episodes now streamed on Apple TV +, the cast breaks down some key moments, with Julianna Margulies pondering which of her former co-stars should jump into season 3 when the Emmy-winning drama is renewed.

In the final with the title “Fever” TMS and the entire UBA team finally has to face the coronavirus pandemic, especially after Alex Levy (Aniston) tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from Italy.
While the growing pandemic was largely in the background of the series, even after co-host Daniel Henderson (Desean Terry) briefly covered the virus from China before it had to be evacuated and Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) was forced to with Paola Lambruschini in Going to quarantine (Valeria Golino) in Italy only shows the seriousness of the virus in the last hour, which will take place in March 2020.
Ahead of the season two premiere, Aniston spoke to ET about reworking the show to include the coronavirus pandemic after being forced to take an unexpected hiatus just weeks after production. The lockdown that followed allowed the creative team to reevaluate the direction of the new episodes.
“We realized we had to go back to the drawing board and figure out how we were going to put this into the show. And also find out how to delicately weave it because we didn’t know where we were going to be when the show aired, ”Aniston said.
Director and executive producer Mimi Leder added that tackling real-world issues like the pandemic and other social injustices allowed the characters to “go a path of self-reflection and self-discovery”.
For Alex, this comes before the reality of what happened between her and Mitch. The wrong side of the bed. While overcoming the claims in Brener’s book, her trip to Italy was leaked to the press and she tested positive for the coronavirus.
While trying to recover from the deadly virus, Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) has Chip Black (Mark Duplass) produce a digital series for UBA +, the ill-timed new streaming service. At this point, Chip and Alex apparently reconcile after their fallout upon returning to the US, Alex.
“With two people who are as broken as these two, who are dependent on one another and in need, everything is on the table,” explains Duplass Clint’s loyalty (and love) to Alex.
Meanwhile, Laura Peterson (Margulies), concerned about the severity of the pandemic given her heart condition, invites Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon) to live with her in Montana, taking a serious step forward in their relationship. And given their beginnings – with an unexpected kiss in the back seat of a city car – and the rocky road they’ve been on since then, so much “happened because of that decision Bradley made,” said Margulies.
“This woman stepping into Bradley’s life is really changing it. And that’s how you see Bradley for the rest of the season [discover] She actually has someone behind her with no ulterior motive, ”the actress continued. And that culminates in Laura calling Bradley “my wife”.
While Bradley’s exploration of her sexuality has set her on the path to discovering her authentic selves, it also created a love triangle between her, Laura and Cory, whose careers are again at stake when he decides to face with the introduction of UBA + the pandemic. At the beginning of the season it was announced that the two got very close after Alex’s work stoppage and the great upheaval at UBA. And in the finale, when Bradley searches for her missing brother Hal (Joe Tippett), Cory confesses his love to her.
“When [showrunner] Kerry Ehrin and the writers gave Cory a chance to bond with someone, it felt like the right combination for him to love Bradley, “said Crudup. “And Bradley is that restless outsider, someone who is a disruptor and loves the authenticity of their life. [and] I think it’s exhilarating for Cory. ”
And that really shakes Cory, who is finally coming to terms with the reality of the world around him – the same moment he made himself vulnerable to Bradley. “And what you really want to do is take someone who is so confident about themselves, destabilize them and see what happens,” added Crudup.
Elsewhere, Cory’s successor as news president, Stella Bak (Greta Lee), is trying to save what she can The morning show The team is forced to isolate and work from home after being exposed to COVID by Alex. According to Lee, this is far from what she expected, especially when it comes to getting the network and morning talk show back on track.
“In a way, she had to become a completely different person,” explained Lee. “When she started – and it is heartbreaking for me in my opinion – to see someone like her with such a vision of what she honestly wants to achieve not only for the network but honestly for the world, to have to sacrifice certain things in order to get one to be an effective leader and boss. ”
In the heat of the moment, she has to grapple with Cory’s wild decision to put Alex on UBA + and turn to Yanko Flores (Néstor Carbonell) as a man The morning show Desk after Daniel unexpectedly quit and Bradley takes care of her missing brother.
“It’s really devastating,” Lee continued. “But it’s infinitely fascinating to see how it shapes and changes depending on the circumstances … Stella has so much more to say and I think we have to see her in a very interesting place.”
With so many cliffhangers and knowing where the world is now and how The morning show could handle that, it would be shocking if the series doesn’t return for at least one more season. While neither cast knew where things were when they spoke to ET, Hasan Minhaj, who has joined as news anchor Eric Nomani, “hopes there is a third season”.
“Who knows what’s going to happen,” he joked while Margulies came up with ideas about who else should be part of the cast in Season 3. And when it comes to her former HE Co-star George Clooney, “maybe he’ll come over,” she suggested.
