Over 40 years after the character became a fan favorite when it first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett is finally at the center of his own series, The book by Boba Fettwhich is now streamed on Disney +. The newest war of stars Spin-off sees Temuera Morrison, who created the role of Jango Fett, the Mandalorian from whom Boba was cloned Attack of the clonesto carry on the legacy of the bounty hunter.
The new series, jumping through time, not only shows how Boba survived his alleged death in Return of the Jedi but how he asserts his claim to Tatooine’s crime scene after Jabba the Hutt’s death.
“I’m still pinching myself and somehow I still can’t believe it. But I’m really excited and very honored and very blessed to be part of this whole series, ”said Morrison of the invitation to join the franchise, this time working with executive producers Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson.
According to Morrison, the series represents a second coming for the character going through a “rebirth”. “He’s removing the layers and we find a little more about what drives him,” the 61-year-old New Zealand actor told ET, adding that he “had a near-death experience, almost buried in the sand” alive. To get to know a new tribe again, to be accepted and to be welcomed into a family environment. ”
This tribe is a clan of the Tusken Raiders that Boba grew to love over the course of the first two action-packed episodes. After Boba rescues a Tusken child and helped him fend off an attack by a rival syndicate, Boba is eventually accepted as one of theirs. And this in particular is another, helmetless way of life that is very different from the strict rules of the Mandalorians.
“He’s changing his ways. He’s a little more open, ”Morrison continues, adding that he is being helped by survivor Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), a mercenary and assassin who was first introduced in Season 1 The Mandalorian who now serves as Boba’s loyal lieutenant as they navigate the galaxy’s underworld.
“The series allows us to explore this void that we knew little about because it wasn’t featured that often in these earlier sagas. Now the task is to reveal the real Boba. And he wants to lead this organization and this arena with respect, “he says, explaining that Boba wants to lead with” a little more diplomacy “even if it seems to lead others astray.
But the new way of doing things is also due to the fact that “we are not 100 percent familiar with everything. And it’s like learning to walk again, trying a little to figure out what works and what doesn’t, “says Wen, teasing that” old habits die hard. ”
She adds, “Fennec still believes the faster way is fear. Not with respect. ”
However, the 58-year-old actress is just glad that her character miraculously survived her own untimely death and is being brought back for this series. “It’s kind of fantastic because Fennec has never been to any of the previous ones war of stars Projects … She’s a fresh character. And I feel like I was able to create and give birth to this character, ”says Wen. “I know this fandom has an incredibly strong opinion and passion for everything war of stars. So the acceptance and love that Fennec Shand has received is enormous. I am overwhelmed by it. “
She adds, “And to get revived and work with the legendary Boba Fett and have our own series, it’s like, ‘What’s going on? What’s happening?'”
