Taraji P. Henson to host 2022 BET Awards

The annual award show will air live on BET on Sunday, June 26.

Taraji P. Henson will be back on stage to host the 2022 BET Awards! The network announced that the actress will return to host the annual awards show for the second year in a row on Sunday, June 26 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

“I am honored to return as host of the BET Awards and to share the stage with such a powerful and prolific artist; you might even say it is Empire of Black excellence,” Henson said in a statement. “It’s a creative dream to work with amazing partners like Scott and Connie at BET and Jesse Collins Entertainment. I can’t wait to celebrate black music, entertainment and culture with our audience in what will be an unforgettable night.”

“Taraji P. Henson is the epitome of Black excellence, and we are excited to collaborate with phenomenal multi-talented stage and screen actresses again this year to host the ultimate celebration of Black culture,” said Connie Orlando, EVP Special Said music programming, and music strategy at BET. “For more than two decades, the BET Awards have been home to black talent, brilliance and creativity, delivering unforgettable cultural moments, and we look forward to raising the bar for the BET Awards 2022.”

The Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress hosted the 2021 BET Awards and used the occasion to honor some of the most iconic black women who have had an impact on pop culture. Henson started the show with A Memorable Opening Monologue and gave roses to many women, including Zendaya, Jazmine Sullivan, Issa Rae and “Queen” Maxine Waters. She also donned various outfits throughout the show, which honored and celebrated the styles and looks of some of the groundbreaking artists.

ET’s Kevin Frazier spoke with Henson on the red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles ahead of the 2021 show’s start, and he opened up about how it felt, saying, “It made me feel amazing. makes it happen.”

“I’m so proud! Bet is where we own our industry… We own it, to celebrate each other, to uplift each other, in an industry that does so many things for us.” The bar doesn’t,” she shared. “So I’m glad we just have each other. You know what we always say, “We got everything, but guess what we need.”
