Taraji P. Henson looks forward to a big night with many special moments at this year’s BET Awards! From her job as host to getting a chance to honor Sean “Diddy” Combs, the actress is opening up about why this year’s show is so special.
Henson spoke with ET’s Kevin Frazier on the red carpet at this year’s BET Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, and he opened up about celebrating Diddy with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award.
“it is about time!” Henson was astonished. “He is so incredible and big for the culture…and for the culture of BET, and we have to give him his flowers!
Not only will Didi be presented with the coveted honor, but she will also participate in a star-studded performance that will serve as a retrospective on her musical legacy as a producer and performer.
Music mogul Mary J. Blige will take the stage for a tribute performance featuring Jodesi, Nas, Lil’ Kim, Busta Rhymes, The Locks, Bryson Tiller, Faith Evans and The Maverick City Choir as they receive the coveted award.
As far as Henson is concerned, this will mark the second year in a row as the Emmys of the big show, and she looks forward to the occasion.
“I love hosting! It’s fun for me,” Henson said. “I’m bringing it. That’s all I can say. I’m bringing the energy, I’m bringing the love and joy that we all need right now. So tonight we’re going to celebrate us! Black Excellence.”
