‘Stranger Things’ Star Jamie Campbell Bower Celebrates Nearly 8 Years of Sobriety: ‘I’m So Grateful’

Jamie Campbell Bower took some time to reflect on the progress he’s made since being sober nearly eight years ago, and he urged others battling addiction to continue the good fight.

The actor revealed in one, “12-and-a-half years ago I was in an active addiction. Hurting myself and the people around me whom I loved the most.” series of tweets, “It got so bad that I eventually ended up in a hospital for mental health. I’m 7 1/2 years clean and sober now. I’ve made many mistakes in my life.”

Her tweet garnered over 200,000 likes, and fans praised her for being so open with her past, including fellow actress Lauren Samuels, who replied, “I remember when you got on your hands during rehearsals. Were writing the day. It’s incredibly impressive how far you are from ‘Come on dear Jamie X.’

The answer prompted Bower to write back, “There is no way on this earth I would have done this without you. I am literally in your debt forever.”

One fan wrote, “Yes, you made mistakes. But also asked and accepted the help needed to stay and get straight. You did that. I work in addictions. I know how hard it is. Well done. Sending love xx.”

Another fan said, “So proud of you Jamie! It takes so much strength to pull this off everyday, I’ve been there. We love you and we’ll be by your side in all of this <3."

Earlier this month, Bower told ET’s Will Marfugi about being “overwhelmed with gratitude” for being a part of the Netflix hit show.

“It was a really weird and beautiful experience, the whole process of getting the role, meeting Matt and Ross. [Duffer] And working with the cast and crew,” he said.

Bower also said that he was “glad” at the opportunity to play such an epic role in the latest installment of the series.

“I’ve always liked characters that have truth and patience and, you know, honesty to them,” he told ET. “I saw a lot of honesty in Henry, in Forest and also in Vecna. For me, as an actor and as a performer, I always want to go as far as I can. And this was an opportunity to do that.”
