SAN JUAN (EFE) .— Spanish singer Rosalía and her boyfriend, Puerto Rican Rauw Alejandro, took their music to a Christmas party in a popular Puerto Rico neighborhood that caused controversy yesterday because it was in the middle of the current Covid-19 -Wave of infection.
The concert took place the day before in the Virgilio Dávila public housing complex (popular neighborhood) in Bayamón, a municipality near San Juan, which also included other artists such as Rafa Pabón, Lyanno and Randy.
“Look, I’m from Barcelona, I’m from afar, but I’m very happy to be here with you,” said Rosalía from the stage to the public, as published photos and videos on social networks.
Some of the songs Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro performed at the event without official permission were “Yo x ti, tú x mi”, “With Height” and “Relationship (Remix)”.
The couple also danced to the rhythm of the “Perreo” on stage, which was enthusiastically received by their fans.
However, the presentation was criticized by the health sector for the crowd and lack of social distancing at a time when Covid-19 cases were on the rise again due to the Omicron variant on the island.
“It’s painful. Calling for massive activity to be canceled and an activity to be celebrated with the group that is at the center of the infection, it’s still daunting,” Scientific Coalition’s Carmen Zorrilla told the radio station NotiUno.
Likewise, the head of the Public Housing Administration (AVP), Alejandro Salgado, published a letter yesterday stating that he did not approve the event at the Virgilio Dávila residence on December 26th.
“We have a responsibility to continue the necessary efforts to prevent and contain the spread of Covid-19 in order to protect the health, life and safety of all of our public housing residents,” Salgado stated in the letter in which he said refuses the concert.
The day before yesterday, according to the Department of Health, an average of 1,840 confirmed cases, 2,608 probable cases and no deaths were reported on the island, while the positivity rate was 21.89%.
