Zimbabwe chose bat v Pakistan
Zimbabwe won the draw for the third game in a row and, as they did previously, opted to hit in the first T20I at Rawalpindi. Perhaps on the flattest pitch of the tour – the match has the potential to be a great scorer – Zimbabwe captain Chamu Chibhabha was aware of the need to make a grand total to challenge Pakistan. The visitors have made some changes, with Elton Chigumbura getting his first game of the tour. Also Ryan Burl and Tendai Chatara, with Craig Ervine and Milton Shumba lost.
Pakistan, sore from their first ODI loss since a 2019 World Cup loss to India, debuted with Usman Qadir. Imad Wasim, normally a regular in this format, was lost, while Khushdil Shah and Haider Ali were retained in the final ODI. Shaheen Afridi rested, while Mohammad Hafeez, who missed the ODI, returned to the intermediate order.
