Rapper Biz Markie Dies at 57

Biz Markie’s manager Jenni D. Izumi informed NPR that the rapper passed away at age 57.

Izumi did not reveal the cause of the rapper’s death.

A few weeks before the death, there were rumors that the rapper could be dead after being in poor health.

The rapper was born with the name of Marcel Hall and since he was a teenager he was doing beatboxing and rapping. His hit “Just Friend” increased his fame in the industry.

“Biz created a legacy of art that will always be celebrated by his industry peers and beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music for over 35 years,”

the rapper’s manager told NPR.

In 2014, the rapper revealed in a interview with ABC that he had type 2 diabetes. In addition, he noted that he had been diagnosed with the disease in 2011.

Biz Markie has worked on losing weight since his diabetes diagnosis. However, it is still unknown whether this condition was related to his death.
