Rap, electronic music and local minorities dominated the second day of the festival

The City of Rock vibrated to the rhythm of rap with performances that highlighted the voice of minorities in Brazil, on the second day of concerts at Rock in Rio, the world’s largest music and entertainment festival.

Prejudice for racism, inequality and indigenous rights stood out in the voices of Brazilian artists such as Racionais MC, Criolo, Xama and the indigenous rap group Bro MC’s, in a day that closed with Post Malone’s trap and in which also the electronics of Alok and the American Marshmello shone.

The rain did not manage to water down Malone’s show, who debuted in the City of Rock with several of his greatest hits and where sunflower Y congratulations sounded in unison in the voice of the public.

The fight against discrimination was highlighted by the Brazilian Rational MCa band born on the outskirts of Sao Paulo that paid tribute to the black victims that racist violence has left in the country.

In his debut at Rock in Rio, the largest rap band in Brazil recalled the brutal murder of a young Congolese on a beach in Rio de Janeirobeaten to death after asking for his salary to be paid at one of the kiosks where he worked.

Although not as common as on the first day, the protests against the Brazilian president, the far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro -aspires to be re-elected on October 2-recognized for his sexist, misogynistic and racist comments, were heard again in the audience.

Xama, rapper who started writing his music to sell sweets on busesrecalled the importance of supporting artists from the favelas who, like him, grew up in the midst of violence and the shortages that are experienced in the less favored communities of the South American giant.

His presentation had as guests L7nnon and the Bro MC’s group, the first from the outskirts of Rio and the others, originating from the Guaraní-Kaiowá ethnic groupthe main Brazilian indigenous people of southern Brazil.

L7nnon came to rap thanks to skateboarding and began his career when in Barcelona (Spain) his fellow competitorsafter listening to his creations, they suggested that he dedicate himself to music and leave the hobby behind.

For its part, Bruno Veron, Tio Creb, CH and Kevin Mbarete, who make up the first indigenous rap group in Brazilbegan to write rap rhymes to “show what it is to be an indigenous people and what it means to be in the struggle and in resistance,” as its creator and leader, Veron, assured EFE.

Accompanied by Dream Theater, Gojira and Sepultura in the Palco Mundo, Iron Maiden had led a very metal day on Fridayin the first of the seven days of concerts of the new edition of the festival.

The cries of “Fora Bolsonaro, fora Bolsonaro!” They were heard since the doors opened in the City of Rock, they were repeated during all the presentations of the bands and they continued this Saturday.

And it will continue for another four additional days (September 8, 9, 10 and 11) in which bands like Coldplay, Green Day, Guns n’ Roses, Gilberto Gil, Dua Lipa, Fall Out Boy, Camila Cabello and Avril Lavigneamong others.

This year, the festival considered the world’s largest music and entertainment eventreturned to Rio de Janeiro, the city where he was born in 1985. In 37 years, he had 21 editions in that Brazilian city, and in other cities such as Lisbon, Madrid and Las Vegas, which have been attended by more than 10 million viewers. .
