Emmy-award winning screen, stage star and voice actress Pat Carroll has passed away. She was 95 years old.
Carroll’s daughter, Keri Karsian, confirmed to ET on Sunday that Carroll died of pneumonia at their home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts on Saturday, adding, “He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.”
Carroll was perhaps best known to contemporary audiences as the voice of the evil sea witch Ursula in Disney’s animated classic. the little Mermaid.
However, the famous comedian had a long and impressive career on stage and screen spanning decades. He won an Emmy Award in 1954 for his work on the series Caesar’s Hour and was a regular actress in Make room for dad.
He gained early fame for his performances in several megahit variety TV shows such as The Steve Allen Show, The Danny Kaye Show, The Carol Burnett Show; and many others. He also had notable roles in The Danny Thomas Show, Laverne and Shirley And erto name just a few.
In the 1980s, Carroll shifted gears and turned his career into voice acting for several iconic animated shows and films, including voicing Grandma in the English language 2005 re-release. My Neighbor TotoroMany Disney shows and countless other animated projects.
The performance that probably defined her career came in 1989, when she voiced Ursula. the little Mermaid, and distributed on the most iconic songs in Disney’s songbook, “Poor Unfortunate Souls”. She reprized the role for several follow-up projects and the video game Kingdom Hearts, which portrays Ursula.
He is survived by his daughters, Keri Karsian and Tara Karsian and granddaughter Evan Karsian-McCormick.
