The AMACC celebrated the increase in its voter registry thanks to changes in its rules that allowed not only the winners of the Ariel to enter this group, but also those who have been nominated twice for the awards to become voting members.
“The need for this register to be more diverse and more inclusive happens because it grows, because we are not just a few who are voting all the time,” said the AMACC president, Leticia Huijara. “Qualitative growth occurs naturally because what is actually happening is that in recent years many women have joined the industry. Is awesome. We are extremely happy about that, and films have also been made that are made in other languages, in other languages and also many directors from the LGBT community.”
The secretary of the AMACC, Daniel Hidalgo, pointed out that some 12 years ago some 80 members of the academy voted. There are currently some 1,800 members, although not all of them end up casting their vote.: In the previous edition, he highlighted that only about 250 voted. The exponential increase occurred after the nominated films were available online for members of the academy. Before, they had to see them in person at the headquarters and then with a few DVDs distributed among their members.
It has not yet been defined where the ceremony will take place, but the directors of the academy announced that it will most likely be at the Palace of Fine Arts, if the sanitary and logistical conditions allow it.
