Naval Criminology is one of the longest series in history

Perhaps many Argentines have never heard of NCIS: Naval Criminology, but this crime drama series carries nothing less than two decades on the air and it is the second longest with actors in history. Right now, the AXN channel is giving the 19th season of one of the highest rated fictions in the United States.

A long way

Created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill in September 2003, NCIS was born as spin-off (fictional detachment) from the legal naval drama JAG, in whose eighth season, in April of that same year, its main characters were introduced.

Since then, the team of researchers led by Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) solved dozens of cases, saved the world on more than one occasion and became one of the longest running series of current television.

The durability ranking is led by The Simpsons, with 33 seasons on air, follow Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, which began in 1999 and accumulates 23 seasons, and then appears NCIS.

A success in the United States

The CBS network, where it is originally broadcast in the United States, has every reason to renew it year after year. It has a loyal fan base and, although it is far from rating records of more than twenty million on average that he knew how to display, with more than twelve and a half million viewers following each episode is among the most watched in prime time from that country.

It did so well that it shot spinoff series NCIS: Los Angeles, which has been on the air since 2009; NCIS: New Orleans, which aired for seven seasons and whose last episode is broadcast this Monday, November 29 by A&E; and NCIS: Hawaii. All were produced by the protagonist, Mark Harmon.

What is NCIS about

The plot follows a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Washington DC, with Gibbs as head and a group that includes Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) and forensic scientist Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover).

Also participating are special agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) and Leon Vance, the director of NCIS (Rocky Carroll).

Goodbye Mark Harmon

Season 19 will mark the departure of Mark Harmon’s character, who at the end of the 18th installment was missing in the middle of the search for a dangerous serial killer. The exclusive protagonist for almost two decades decided that had completed a cycle and will only be in this season for a few episodes. The question is whether it will be his final departure or will he return as a guest.

With the departure of Harmon, it will be necessary to see if the series manages to reorient itself and survive, as they did before Law and Order: Special Victims Unit without Christopher Meloni, or before CSI, without the character of Gil Grissom, played by William Petersen.

How season 18 ended

The last episode of season 18 saw how Bishop decided to leave and saw how the rest of the squad recovered (or at least tried) from that exit and the disappearance of Gibbs.

McGee and Torres convince Vance to bring in Agent Jessica Knight to help them find Gibbs. Although they manage to catch some accomplices of the serial killer that Gibbs and Marcie Warren (the guest star Pam dawber) were tracking, the main suspect is still at large and it will be a recurring theme that will haunt them.

The team will also meet a new ally, Aiden Parker (Gary Cole), special agent of the FBI. The actor, who appeared as a co-star of Veep, multi-winner Emmy comedy, came to fill the void left by Mark Harmon’s reduced presence this season.
