Will Smith apologizes for slapping Chris Rock Oscar in new video: Watch – Billboard

Will Smith is breaking his silence. After the Oscars in March – during which he slapped Chris Rock for slapping him in the face gi zen Joke about wife Jada Pinkett Smith – The actor backed down from social media and the public eye.

Smith has now made his comeback and took to his YouTube page “It’s a Minute” on Friday (July 29) to answer questions about the Oscars incident and issue another apology to Rock as well as Rock’s family. A video titled ” has been uploaded.

Answering the question why he didn’t take the opportunity to apologize for Thappad during his acceptance speech after winning Best Actor (King Richard), Smith said he was not in a clear state of mind.

“I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk. When he is, he’ll arrive. I’ll talk to you.” Will say, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Smith continued, “I want to apologize to Chris’s mother. I saw an interview [she] Did, and that was one of those things I just didn’t realize. I was not thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment. I want to apologize to Chris’ mother, I want to apologize to Chris’s family, especially Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. It is probably irreplaceable. I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuance and complexity of what happened in that moment. I’m not going to try to unpack all of that right now, but I can tell you all, there’s no part of me that thinks this was the right way to behave in that moment. No part of me thinks this is the best way to handle feelings of disrespect or humiliation. ,

The Rock hasn’t spoken publicly about the Oscar slap yet, though has made jokes about it during his stand-up comedy show. Smith formally apologized for his behavior statement posted on his Instagram on March 28; He also resigned his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was banned from the Oscars and related Academy program for 10 years.
