Will Smith’s jokes have begun 2022 Grammys,

64th Annual Awards Show Being held in Las Vegas and during the pre-ceremony, LeVar Burton introduced one of this year’s presenters, Nate Bargazzate, with a jab towards Smith.

‘Keep your hand to yourself’

“I want to warn you all that our next presenter is a comedian. If you know what I mean,” Burton began his introduction.

“So I need to caution everyone: Stay in your seats and keep your hands to yourself. OK?” Burton joked.

‘Comedians must now wear helmet’

Burton next introduced the presenter, comedian Nate Burgazzte, who walked on stage wearing a black helmet, apparently referring to Smith and Chris Rock slaps.

“They said comedians now have to wear these to award shows when they’re joking,” Bargazzate said. “It doesn’t even cover your face, I think it just focuses on where you’ll hit me.”

This year’s host Trevor Noah also made fun of the “King Richard” star. During the start of the show, Noah joked, “We’re going to keep people’s names out of our mouths.”

“I’m going to present the award and I’m sure you guys will be 500 feet away from me,” Questlove joked before giving out an award.

“Just playing,” he added before submitting.

Smith announced his resignation in a statement Friday, saying he had “betrayed the trust of the Academy” in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“I have responded directly to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful and unforgivable. The list of what I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone in attendance and the global audience at home. I have betrayed the Academy’s trust,” Smith said.

Smith said he denied the opportunity to celebrate “to the other nominees and winners”, adding that he would accept any further results from the board.

David Rubin, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said in a statement that it has accepted Smith’s resignation, and will continue to proceed with disciplinary proceedings against Smith.

“We have received and accepted the immediate resignation of Mr. Will Smith from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. We are ahead of our next, with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for breach of the Academy’s standards of conduct. Will continue to move forward. Board meeting scheduled for April 18,” Rubin said.
