MTV VMAs 2022: Jay Balvin, Panic! at the disco among the artists

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards are just around the corner and the first batch of artists have been announced.

Anita, Jay Balvin, Marshmallow x Khalid and the Panic! The disco is all on tap to hit the stage at Prudential Center in New Jersey on Sunday, August 28. The television special will air on MTV at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Anita – the first ever VMA nominee in the Best Latin category and the first Brazilian artist to be cast for Moon Persona – will make her main stage debut with “Envolver”. Also making his main stage debut Marshmallow, teaming up with Khalid for the television premiere of his song “Numb”.

Jay Balvin’s return to the stage promises to perform “Furious”, with Ryan Castro performing “Nivel de Perrero”. The Colombian superstar has his sights set on becoming the most respected Latin artist in VMA history, should he take home his sixth Moon Persona in the Best Latin category for “In da Ghetto” with Skrillex this year.

Last but not least, panic! She returned to the VMAs for the first time since 2018, the world premiere for her new single, “Middle of a Breakup.” The band is also up for an alternate video nomination nine times.

Last week, MTV announced the full list of nominees for its 2022 show One Piece with seven nominations to Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X, while the 2021 MTV VMA hosts, Doja Cat and Harry Styles do not. Huh. Far behind, each received six nominations for their musical magic.

Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd were also among the top contenders, leading up to next month’s show with five nominations.

This year’s VMAs will also see 26 first-time nominees for Moon Persona, including Baby Keam, Gail, Cassie Musgraves, and Menskin — each with multiple nods.
