Avatar: The Path of Water Empire Magazine is getting a big promotional push — including a huge new cover image! However, instead of going with Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully or Zoe Saldana’s Netiri, Empire’s Avatar 2 cover image shows a first look at Kate Winslet’s Ronal, a new Navi who we’ll meet in the sequel. You can take a look at Empire’s new cover for Avatar: Water’s Way, below:

The Avatar 2 trailer garnered 148 million views in the first 24 hours of release, proving that the Avatar franchise still has as much worldwide appeal as James Cameron (once again) revolutionized movies in 2009 Was. Still, Avatar franchise star Zoe Saldana says the worry about recapturing the (billion-dollar) magic is overwhelming:

“It’s exciting; nerve-wracking,” explains Saldana. ew, “Humble too, you know — the wait is finally over. And we get to share something that we share with so many people that we know we love it too.”

James Cameron hasn’t shown any nervousness while promoting Avatar: The Way of Water—in contrast, Cameron has made some pretty big claims about what the sequel will deliver:

“With the first Avatar we are set to push the boundaries of the big screen with new Avatar movies. We are pushing those limits even further, 3D with high dynamic range, high frame rates, high resolution and much more. With our visual effects in reality,” Cameron told the crowd at Disney’s CinemaCon panel, before adding:

“But it’s not just technical when I’m making a movie. It’s working with the actors that I find most rewarding and it’s been an amazing adventure to explore Pandora again with our friends.” So we settled on Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Steven Legg, not to mention our new cast members Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and this incredible group of extremely talented teens, all of whom found themselves early in their roles. We wanted our return to Pandora to be something really special.

Every shot was designed for the biggest screen, highest resolution, and most 3D available. We set out once again to push the limits of what cinema can do. I think we pulled it off. I hope we pulled it off. I hope you agree when you watch the film in December.”

Avatar: The Path of Water Will come on December 16, 2022 Avatar 3 Set to debut two years later on December 20, 2024.
