Warner Bros. Discovery is going to cut its budget in some regions, in an effort to advance its streaming distribution strategy. HBO Max and Discovery+ are finally going to merge, and Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a new approach to its streaming offerings before that happens. This means that no one does streaming of big budget special movies, like bat girlAnd that also means far less kids and family stuff.
HBO Max recently canceled the upcoming series Gordita Chronicles, and it was the beginning of a wider move away from its children and family pipeline. Discovery investor call confirmed to the company that tough choices would be made with that type of programming.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s CFO Gunner Wiedenfels said during Thursday’s call that children’s and animation titles on both streaming and traditional platforms could be removed “without a substantial investment case against them.”
